Arsenal close in 4th signing, Player jets in to London, this will delight fans

With the open day of the season fast approaching, Arsene Wenger confirmed yesterday that he is in the market for a new centre back following Per Mertesacker’s injury picked up against Lens last week.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of suitable replacements, but Valencia’s highly rated Skhodran Mustafi has emerged as the Gunners prime target, it’s thought that the 24-year-old’s representatives have already been contacted and we are close to finalising a deal for the German intentional.

The transfer fee (as usual) seems to be the stumbling block to any deal, as reports from Sky Germany suggest the North Londoners are set to offer €30m + €10m in bonuses, conflicting reports from Valencia Extra suggest the La Liga giant want just €25m for the German defender.

The Saturday reports from Marca via Sportwitness claim that Arsenal are trying to push ahead for a deal, and are ready to offer €30m for the workaholic defender.

Mustafi is expected to start pre-season on Friday, and is expected in Valencia, but Sportwitness also claim that Mustafi, 24, will arrive in London today, so it’s possible that he coming to London to formalise the deal and could start training with the Gunners immediately if this particular rumour is true.

Unrelated to this story, but quite liking the away shirt from the new kit range, and lets not forget it’s my birthday next week!

The La Liga giants are facing a financial crisis and are expected to sell some of their star players to avoid hefty fines and penalties, which means Wenger is holding all the cards.

There was also talk of a release clause for Mustafi worth around €50m  on his current in his contract, so do you think Sir Wenger will splash the cash on a defender? Who knows, but once again, time is ticking and it’s August tomorrow! Tick tock team!
