Arsenal close in £75m double deal – this will delight fans

Arsenal finished last season as runners up in the Premier League, ten points behind the surprise winners; Leicester City. To try and go one better this season, it seems as though Arsene Wenger could be on the verge of signing some quality players this summer transfer window.

The Gunners’ French manager is ready to spend as much as £75m to land both Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez this summer, according to a report from The Mirror over the weekend.

Wenger has been on the hunt for some attacking options after missing out on Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, but the 29 year-old ace snubbed a move to the Emirates by signing a new contract to remain at the King Power Stadium.

It seem as though Wenger is looking to bring two more players to The Emirates this summer, after completing the signing of Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding with reports claiming that Wenger is closing in on both Mahrez and Lacazette.

The report from early yesterday claims the Algerian attacker Mahrez has agreed to join the North London club after the Gunners manager apparently held talks with the players’ agent after the Gunners 1-1 friendly draw with RC Lens on Friday night and there were rumours floating around Twitter that he flew into London last night, but also rumours he’s set to join Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea.

Leicester Manager Claudio Ranieri is determined to keep hold of the PFA Player of the Year, but the Italian manager has already said he won’t keep players if they are not willing to stay and I personally think Leicester will find it hard to refuse the Gunners bumper £35m reported offer. It will make a lot of sense if Wenger finally lands Mahrez as he had shown he has the potential to fit straight in to Wenger’s squad, netting 17 goals and creating 10 assists last season.

The move would be a brilliant double swoop as the reports in Mirror claim that Wenger is also trying to land Lacazette as a replacement for the injured Danny Welbeck. They also claim Wenger has also held talks with the 25-year-old’s agent but Lyon do not want to lose their star player, but I personally think they will find a £40m offer to good to turn down.

Signing both Lacazette and Mahrez will of course cost the Gunners upwards of £75m which is a huge sum, but would bolster Arsenal’s attack and give Wenger plenty of options upfront for the new season which starts in just 20 days time.
