Arsenal in pole position to sign £45m hit man with Wenger due to meet agent

The summer transfer window opens today and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been in the market trying to sign some elite players to reinforce his squad ahead of the upcoming season. It seems Alexandre Lacazette is Arsenal’s next target and Wenger is doing all he can to lure the striker to The Emirates this summer.

After Leicester City star striker Jamie Vardy snubbed a move to Arsenal in June, by signing a new deal, Wenger has been searching for an alternative to fill the void that was expected to be filled by Vardy.

Earlier this week, reports from Mirror claims Wenger was due to hold talks with Lacazette’s agent this week in France. Lacazette netted 75 goals in the last three seasons for Lyon, the Ligue 1 giants were asking for around £45m for the French international’s signature this summer.

Despite the high price-tag, the Gunners had been showing great interest in Lacazette and talkSport claims that Arsenal are in the best position to sign the striker, battling with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. The report also says that West Ham and Tottenham have also been after Lacazette but the 25-year-old ace has snubbed their offer as he wants to wait for Arsenal and PSG to make their move.

However, it is believed that he would prefer to leave France if he finally quits Lyon and his eyes are set on a move to the Premier League.

Earlier this week, Arsene Wenger did little to stop the speculation after refusing to rule out a move for Lacazette. When he was asked about the move by Canal + Sport, the Metro claims the boss quoted as saying: “I neither confirm or deny interest, if I say that I like the player it starts speculation…”

Lacazette is now the man seriously linked with a move to The Emirates but we’ll have to be patient and see what comes out of these rumours. I believe the boss wants to sign a big name striker this summer and I personally think a player like Lacazette could be exactly what Arsenal needs.

He had an impressive goal-scoring record in Ligue 1 last season and his pace, clever movement, brilliant technique and better-quality finishing would make him the perfect foil for Ozil’s vision in the final third.
