Fortnite Battle Royale is a third-person multiplayer shooter game that you can play with friends in a squad battle, play as a duo or stay concentrated on solo gaming.

Fortnite came out on the 25th of July 2017. The game was published by Epic Games and is available on the PS4, Xbox One and playable on a PC or Mac. Epic Games says it’s a mix between Minecraft and Left 4 Dead. Unless you have been living under a rock, you will already know what the game is about as it boasts a whopping 45 million players and 2 million concurrent users.

A 100-man PvP (Player vs. Player) has been popular in the past and is known by the name PUBG (Player Unknown Battle Grounds). So Epic Games decided to add their spin on this exciting new format which has proved to be a tremendous success for the developers. Fortnite’s popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

Gameplay

Following your login, you will see a menu at the top of the screen which says: Lobby, Locker, Battle Pass, Item Shop, Profile, and Store. All of these have different uses integral to the gameplay, and you’ll soon get used to what each one does. As you head into the lobby, your character will be standing in the centre of four pads. The pads allow your friends to stand on them alongside you to get ready to enter the game. Locker is where you can edit your character, pickaxe, glider designs and emote, and you can unlock these Fortnite items by using the Battle Pass. The Battle Pass is a ranking system from tier 1-70, and there is a small cost involved if you wanted to get hold of one.

You can get the points to tier up by achieving missions across the game, and you can also unlock tiers by doing various daily challenges. The Item Shop also allows you to buy skins, pickaxes and emotes and the store also allows you to purchase ‘V-bucks,’ the in-game currency. Once you have readied up you will be taken into a pre-match lobby where you can test out your emotes, while waiting for your lobby to fill up to the required 100 players. Then the real fun begins as you will start the game in a flying bus named ‘The Battle Bus.’

There is a vast map, and The Battle Bus will come from one of the edges. You pull up the map, quickly choose a place to go, and then jump out. As you fall rapidly to the ground to get the loot, you will come to a sudden halt, which is your glider popping out, so you don’t die straight away from fall damage. When you are on the ground, you scavenge the area for loot to take down your enemy. You can also destroy objects with your pickaxe (reminiscent of Minecraft) which you can then exchange in the item shop. Then it’s full steam ahead into the unknown as you fight to win the Victory Royale.

Will you be the last man standing in this epic game of skill?
