It now looks as though Arsene Wenger is interested in securing the future of his current players instead of bring more to The Emirates during this transfer window.

Just few days ago the French manager confirmed that he is on the verge of extending Spanish international midfielder Santi Cazorla and German defender Per Mertesacker, according to a report in The Mirror.

Now the latest rumor flying round the media claims that French international striker Olivier Giroud is close in putting pen to paper on a new deal with Arsenal, Guardian via Telefoot:

“We are about to reach an agreement for an extension [to my contract]. It was also a gesture of confidence; I want to continue the adventure here in this family of Arsenal. I feel good here.”

So far this season Giroud appearances under Wenger have been hampered by injury and he’s been limited by the emergence of Alexis Sanchez as Wenger’s first choice up front. Despite not starting many games, his impact has been nothing short of brilliant, scoring several late winners and equalisers for his side.

He has managed to net 6 league goals and provided 4 assists so far this season, and Giroud currently earns £100,000-a-week even from the bench.

Do you personally think it makes any sense for Wenger to offer him a new contract and such huge wages, if he’s not going to be a regular starter?
