With the winter transfer window looming large and Jim White starting to apply his make up from his cryogenic crypt, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is already setting his gaze on a couple of players to bolster our mostly injured ranks. It now looks highly rated Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez is high on Wenger’s shopping list according to a report from The Daily Star who have fueled the rumor by claiming he now wants a move away from the La Liga outfit, they also reported both Arsenal and Manchester United are both keen to land the workaholic defender.

A buyout clause worth £56m has been splash on the Uruguayan international who gets amongst the goals, with 3 goals in 21 appearances for his national team side.

The news outlet reckon that we are willing to offer £26m which is nothing near to his release clause, with the Red Devils willing to offer an eye-watering £50m if the rumours are to be believed (which they’re not) and it’s thought that Gimenez is currently frustrated under manager Simeone so could be open to a move to The Emirates.

In the summer transfer window Arsenal completed the signings of two centre backs in Rod Holding and Shkodran Mustafi but Holding, despite a great pre-season is being looked at as a less senior player than his other more experienced teammates in the same position.

Though we still have the likes of the injured Per Mertesacker to return, along with the current third choice Gabriel, I personally still feel we are a bit short in that area, and an injury to either of our first choice centre backs could pose a huge problem for Arsene Wenger.
