Deal set to be completed in 48 hours

A report from Football Italia claims that AS Roma are set to complete the signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a season-long loan in the next 48 hours.

It was reported earlier this year that the Polish international goalkeeper’s agent had been in discussions with the Italian club over the summer and he is happy to rejoin Roma but not quite ready to give up his long-term future at the Emirates.

The 26-year-old shot stopper spent last season on loan with the Italian outfit and had a great season after a difficult spell after losing his place at Arsenal to David Ospina, before the French manager’s bargain £10m Petr Cech acquisition. David Ospina has proved he is a quality keeper following his recent performances at the Copa America but will have to go head to head with Cech for the number one shirt next season, and unless Ospina leaves for Turkey as rumoured then it’s unlikely the Pole in goal will get his chance at regular playing time.

Szczesny will also have to fight for his place in the Roma team after the Italian club completed the signing of Alisson this summer, so challenging times ahead for our Wojciech.
